Paper

Strathmore Drawing Paper

I use Strathmore's 18 in x 24 in drawing paper for some larger-scale portraits. The paper is smoother than it's recycled counterpart, offering a cleaner final look.

Strathmore Recycled Drawing Paper

I prefer Strathmore's 18 in x 24 in recycled drawing paper for larger-scaler portraits. This paper is 30% post-consumer fiber, adding a slightly grainier texture, which I love.

Strathmore Sketching Paper

I use Strathmore's 9 in x 12 in sketch paper for smaller-scale art. The paper is finer than the drawing paper I use, making it great for quick sketches, experimentation, and practice.

Pencils

Staedtler Mars Lumograph Art Set

This sketching set has been my go-to for a long time. This set comes with 3 pens, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, and 7 graphite pencils ranging from soft to hard: 8B, 6B, 4B, HB, H 2H, 4H. This set helped me learn foundational skills and techniques for drawing.

Royal & Langnickel Pencil Set

This set was one of the first ones I tried. This set contains an eraser, pencil sharpener, and 12 graphite pencils. My favorite thing about this set is the carrying case—making it ideal for travel. This is a great set if you're on the go.

Goldfaber Graphite Sketch Set

This pencil set has also been quite reliable. This set comes with an eraser, pencil sharpener, and 6 graphite pencils ranger from soft to hard: 6B, 4B, 2B, B, HB, 2H. I often go back-and-forth between these and the Staedtler pencils.
